What TV shows did you watch as a kid?

This will be a nostalgic compilation for me. Growing in the 90’s was the best era for cartoons. There was no way I would allow myself or any of you who are 90’s kids like me out there who grew up with these cartoons to simply let them be forgotten. So here’s 6 of the shows we use to watch on Fox Kids.

Beast Wars

Beast Wars was a new story in the Transformers universe. Well back in 1996 it was new. But the beastly variations of the characters we know, and love were presented in this 3d animated adventure. The show is set in the Jurassic time period. Optimus Primal, leads a team or Maximals to earth but are pursued by Megatron and the Predacons. A dog fight ensues between the two opposing forces resulting in both crash landing on a pre-humanoid planet. They assume the forms of the indigenous animals protect themselves from the abundance of natural energy the planet gives off. on the planet and tries to find a way off. Thus the Beast Wars began for an epic three seasons.

Peter Pan and the Pirates

Im really showing my age on this one. This show came out in 1990 and ran till 1991. It was a fun adaptation of the classic Hans Christian Anderson book. Yes, it looked a lot different than the Disney animated movie and explored some neverland lore. Sadly, though it did not get enough interest to stay on air but there’s a fun fact that Tim Curry played Captain Hook.

Eek! the Cat

Eek! was one of my favorite shows to watch. This cat was always getting himself into trouble by trying to help others, often times leading to some brutal obstacles along the way. Undoubtedly the antagonist was Sharky the Shark dog. This was an incredible show and anyone who finds this gem has found a piece of my childhood. The show ran from 1992 till 1997. Not only was it popular enough to get its own video game, but it also birthed one of the most popular cartoons of the 90’s.

The Terrible Thunder Lizards.

A direct spinoff from Eek! the Cat, the terrible Thunder Lizards was a show of Jurassic proportions. It broke off from Eek and became its own show in 1993 and ran till 1997. The show follows three dino mercenaries who were charged with eliminating two primitive humans and always failing. It was hilarious. This show was pure genius, and I wish there were more cartoons like this nowadays. But as the times change so does the content.

Taz-Mania

Yep, Taz had his own show, and we loved it. So, most of us know Taz got his start with Looney Toons along with Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, and a host of many other classic cartoon characters. This stand-alone show proved that Taz had more fans than people realized. Furthermore, it explored the Looney Toon character in depth, introducing us to Taz’s family and homeland. For some odd reason the sky was always yellow which looking back now, was weird premise. Rain or shine the sky was always yellow. Anyway, the show ran from 1991 till 1995.

Tiny Toon Adventures

It’s hard to believe that this show only ran for two years. That lets me know that I watched this on repeat quite a few times. Tiny Toons is a national treasure of a cartoon. It was presented as a variety show and played on pop culture. The featured the next generation of looney toons including Buster and Babs Bunny, no relation. Also, we had Hamton J. Pig, Plucky Duck, Elmyra Duff, Montana Max, Dizzy Devil, Sweetie Bird, and more looney millennials. The show ran from 1990 to 1992. It was made into an animated movie and was well received in its day.

Bonus

Tom and Jerry Kids

Speaking of millennial toons, we get the younger version of Tom and Jerry. This show was a younger take on the classic cat and mouse comedy. While the original show was still very popular, even in the 90’s, Tom and Jerry Kids was just a fun and entertaining. It was just more toned down on the level of violence. Other than that, there wasn’t much of the old aesthetics from the old cartoon lost in this. Tom and Jerry still didn’t speak, and there some old jokes used in this new version. I love a classic call back.
